There are many different types of Tomatoes, Large (Beefsteak type), Medium (Salad type), Plum, small fruited
Good: Shapely, ripe but firm, well coloured with calyces attached
Poor: small, misshapen, unripe or overripe, dull colour, green-backed, evidence of pest or disease or lacking calyces
The Calyces are the sepals that form a protective layer around a flower in bud and attach to the plant
Large: Not less than 75mm in diameter small: less than 35mm in diameter
Some classes ask for a Truss of Tomatoes
Good: No fruit missing, free from pest or disease, The truss should gradually reduce from good quality ripe fruit (about 1/3 rd of Truss) down to smaller immature or unripe fruit
Poor: small truss, misshapen fruit, evidence of pest or disease, split fruits, uneven ripening,
